I gained a quote from Papa Electrical via the 'rated people' website and hired him to come and fit a new consumer unit in my house, the man who came was polite and completed the work in a few hours. Two months after the work was completed I had my old gas fire removed and a new electric fire fitted which was plugged into the mains socket. A few days after it was fitted I heard a very loud buzzing noise coming from the consumer unit when the fire, oven and kettle were on, it was purely by chance that I heard this noise. I called an electrician out immediately and he was shocked to find that Papa Electrical had wired my socket ring into the lighting ring, something that could have easily caused a fire. The reason that I didn't call Papa Electrical out is because they are based over 100 miles away and quote on the rated people website for jobs anywhere in the country, and besides, I had absolutely not confidence in them. It only took the electrician 20 minutes to fix the fault, I am very lucky that my house didn't burn down.

I have to agree with the other reviews here, and would advise anyone not to use this guys services for any electrical work. I too hired him (via Ratedpeople) to fit me a new consumer unit and do me a 1st fix for 3 sockets and 3 wall lights. After he's finished the job, I firstly got a massive whack off a socket that was wired to a breaker that showed as "OFF", I called him back to investigate and he put this down to a faulty breaker and replaced. All sorted? Absolutely not! This weekend, I wired up the sockets and lights and found that the socket nearest the box tripped the switch anytime I plugged anything into it. I called out another electrician, this time regulated by NICEIC. He was astonished at the state of the wiring in the box. Similar to the other guy who's left a review here, he created a ring within a ring and also wired MCB's to RCD's so that even if the MCB was switched off, it was still live. He'd also put too many live wires into an MCB which was causing them to conflict\overload. The NICEIC electrician also reviewed the Part P certificate he'd left me with which contained all the supposed load tests. He concluded that given the state of the wiring, this was complete bollocks and he's 'certainly' made them up. If you value your property and your life, do not call him.
