Would definitely recommend 1st time buyers with very minimal knowledge of the process. Craig at mortgage 1st was excellent and really went above and beyond. He answered all our silly questions and even replied when he was on holiday. Thanks to Craig we are now only weeks away from completing on our first home

I was allocated Mark Ambler as my contact/broker. We briefly spoke on the phone and arranged an appointment later in the week to have a mortgage appointment, scheduling my work commitments around our scheduled afternoon appointment. Mark did not phone at the agreed time and 24+ hours later I still haven't heard from him via phone nor email. I have therefore decided not to go ahead with Mortgage 1st as my broker.

Our experience with Mortgage 1st has been outstanding. From the word go, Laurel was super friendly, took the time to understand our circumstances and answered our many questions about the home buying process. She was always on hand to help us as we viewed and put in offers and checked many different lenders to get us the best possible deal as well as find a lender who were suitable for us. Keeley was excellent when it came to the application - they were both super clear, communication was excellent and were so on it with chasing up our lender along the way. Mortgage 1st took what was quite a daunting and nerve wracking experience for us first time buyers and made it smooth, helping us to navigate what is a complex and stressful time. They were thoughtful, thorough and always there whenever we needed them or had questions. We wouldn't have got on the property ladder without them!

Natalie was great from day 1. She helped through the mortgage process stress free. I would highly recommend her and the company.

I sought a second opinion with them late in the process of buying, after I was told my lender would not allow joint ownership with a mortgage in my husband's sole name, despite the fact I was financing half the property. Mortgage1st were very responsive, but it was too risky for us to switch brokers and lenders at this point, as we we had already locked in on our mortgage product with our current broker. Mortgage 1st promisingly said they could help and had found a lender who would not reduce affordability even with me as a spouse on the mortgage, which I found hard to believe, but the broker did not give enough details about that mysterious mortgage product for us to be convinced to drop everything and go through the whole process with them again. Their website does not state anything about fees nor that they are an independent broker service. I thanked the broker and told him that we couldn't switch our case over to him, but I've been thinking about it all day and can't shake the thought that it was unethical not to reveal anything about the mortgage product he had in mind for us, not even the rate, unless we dropped everything and paid him. Other independent brokers with whom I sought second opinions were less money-driven and named a few lenders I could look into, and some detailed mortgage products, without asking for payment nor that I hire them at all. You'd think Mortgage 1st would understand that you already have other ties and not try to take advantage of desperate situations where ownership needs to be acknowledged in both names, but give an opinion out of professional ethos, knowing you could hire them later, when remortgaging, or on other occasions. Recommending a lender is not the same as being paid to actually take on a case, but I suppose brokers don't get much business these days. I would still have considered using them given the great reviews, but they're perhaps not the most ethical.
