Effectrode LA-1A Leveling Amplifier I've had the LA-1A in my bass pedal board for the past 8 months. I havent turned it off yet :-) To call the LA-1A a guitar pedal is actually a gross understatement. It is much closer related in the way it is built and certainly in the way it sounds to holy grail vintage tube studio processors that weigh a ton and cost even more. Ive been around recording studios for the past 30+ years and the LA-1A does everything I need to focus and tidy up my bass signal. My first reaction after plugging it in was: Sounds like a record. I havent changed my view yet. Good tube equipment always needs more care, more space, more power and costs a bit more, but boy, is it worth it.

The Blackbird is my desert island pedal, or the kind of thing I would want to save if there was a fire at my place. I use it as an amp into IRs and into my audio interface, and I love the amount of great tones I can get out of it! I litterally does everything I can think of, or would ever want to do. Thank you Effectrode for creating such a dream of a pedal!

The LA-1A sounds out of this world, really! I've only just recently gotten to try it on electric guitar, and quite honestly, my jaw dropped! Labelling it a compressor is actually quite limiting (no pun intendedor maybe!): it really does so much more! Most of the videos I've seen play it dead clean, I myself run it through a low wattage/easily breaking up tweed type amp, and it just makes everything sound better, more detailed and nuanced! I play exclusively fingerstyle and it seems to enhance everything I do! If you like the tone of your amp, it's the perfect missing link, and I find the tube boost absolutely delivers! I actually use very little Peak Reduction (up to 9-10 at most!), and the Dynamic Eq works wonders so much that it kicked a very very powerful and versatile EQ off my board: no crazy EQing tricks, the LA-1A works wonders effortlessly! I don't feel the need to use any overdrive, just relying on that of the amp! The crazy thing is I almost got to sell it (since I didn't get the time to use it for a while); it's never, ever, leaving me from now on!!!
