My elderly, widowed mother who was in her early 80s was treated in a most appalling and callous manner after the initial month in Bhakti Shyama Care Centre. She died within a few weeks of being served with an eviction notice after safeguarding concerns were raised about how she was treated during the night. Even after she was diagnosed with heart failure, the devastating uncaring behaviour on the part of the leadership team as well as a few day and staff staff persisted. More than once, it was left up to me to phone for an ambulance during my visits because my mum could not breathe and the lead nurses said they were "too busy". One team of paramedics described how heart failure can make a person feel as if they are "slowly drowning". Four years after her death, it is still profoundly upsetting to recall how she was robbed of dignity in the last few months of her life. I am just thankful that at least in the last few days of her life, my much cherished, beloved mother was in hospital and died in the care of nurses who treated her with the dignity she deserved. If zero stars was an option, that would be more preferable than even giving one star to this establishment.
