Local landmark and constructed in the Romanesque style between 1883 and 1892, St Lukes was built on the site of a grand mansion (Old Park House) to meet the growth of properties along the previously rural Nightingale Lane. Further additions in 1903 saw the installation of electric lighting in the church, and in 1905 the organ was installed. The white marble cross above the high altar is a copy of some ancient copies in Rome and represents one of the earliest forms of Christian art. To this day, St Lukes remains one of the most popular churches in the area and one of the few to not have undergone modernisation or repurposed in some way.
