I duly attended my appointment this morning. The staff were pleasant and attentive and put me at ease, but compared to my usual clinic in Norfolk it felt odd to be sat on a normal office chair in a very small room, rather than on a reclinable treatment chair. I am well over 6 foot tall and it would not have been easy to accurately see into my ear. The process started well but it soon became clear that neither of my ears could be fully cleared of wax. The young lady who carried out the process appeared to be unable to remove the wax, apart from a very small amount, which she said was very dry. Clearly at a loss about what to do next she referred the matter to a more senior colleague. She also failed to remove any wax. They suggested I booked another appointment at their branch in Willington in 3 days time. I could not attend this appointment, given I am on holiday and Willington would be a 66 mile round trip. They gave me no confidence at all that another appointment would be any more successful. Given they couldnt remove the wax now, what would be different in 3 days time?
My hearing in one ear is now completely gone and I would say the other ear is down 10% on what it was 24 hours ago. I was not charged for the ear wax removal but was charged 30 for an appointment fee. I have now booked an appointment at my normal clinic in Norfolk, who assured me that dry wax should not be an issue in its successful removal. I am 30 out of pocket, for a treatment that has left me no better than I was before I attended the Ear Place. Draw your own conclusions about the quality of the service I have received.
