The team here went above and beyond in every aspect of care they gave to my mother who had a stroke. She arrived with virtually no mobility in right leg or right arm and left 6 weeks later walking with an aid into her own house with a carer. The customer service was exceptional keeping us posted every step of the way and making contact with the community team so that my mothers transfer from rehab centre to home was seamless. I cannot recommend Ascot Rehab highly enough.

The treatment I received at Ascot was brilliant, I had been waiting a long time, seven years, for stroke rehabilitation in an English speaking environment. I was living and working in Bonn, Germany as an international civil servant. My stroke happened in 2015. I received some initial treatment in Bonn, but this was limited to a little physiotherapy at a rehabilitation hospital, and some occupational therapy. Treatment sessions in Bonn were a maximum 25 minutes (or shorter) per patient. The Bonn treatment records are very limited and dont say report much of any value. At Ascot Rehabilitation the sessions were of a good length, and I received a full 45 minutes of contact. I could see, and observe the therapists working together as a team and comparing observations on each patient. The therapists kept good notes on each patient, and shared insights on every patient across each discipline that I needed. The sessions were mixed multi-module. At first I did not understand why, until I saw how the whole picture of my treatment was coming together. Having the support of other English speaking survivors was greatly appreciated. Many who have had a stroke are affected differently. Being able to talk openly about our experiences is a positive aspect of inpatient care and treatment. Ascot provided this space. Non affected people in the general population nod their heads acknowledging they are listening but they are but really dont understand. Ascot provided a safe space to discuss and share these experiences. The centre was also working very close with the international clientele. Many patients were from Middle Eastern countries and the centre had a large capacity to speak with their patients, even the speech therapists could speak Arabic. We were all able to team up together and jointly make our improvements. A good comradely formed between all of us and we had fun regardless of impairments and any language barriers. The therapists assessed us all individually and adjusted the programmes to suit our different capabilities and goals. I had a goal to try to cycle again, and the therapists made it happen for me and a few other patients at the same level. For most of us it was only a tricycle but I know I can go to a 2-wheel cycle from here. They also made the opportunity for those of us who were physically stronger to attend a commercial gym. Staff were all caring and respectful, the food was good, except one bad experience with the aubergine stew. The kitchen staff immediately rectified. The hydrotherapy worked really well and gave that get good proprioceptive feedback. The tingling sensation down my affected side felt amazing. Balance and steadiness on walking has improved. Falling is less of a risk because of my spatial awareness and proprioception improvement. Gait has improved, I didnt believe I needed treatment for physio because I was already receiving great physio in Germany but my feet now line up better. I can continue with physiotherapy on return to Germany with my notes and exercise programmes, and switch to normal gyms for strengthening. The multi modal treatment seemed strange to me at first but I learned my problems were more neuropsychology getting Occupational Therapy combined with neuropsychology was the best thing for me. Rehab is a long always improving process Ascot have provided tools to help me in the future. Many of my colleagues didnt understand limitations because from their perspective I had made a miraculous recovery already.
