Atmosphere: chill, sub-urban with nice and bright displays colourfully chalked onto blackboard. pigmented with cherry and wood. Polite staff, remembered to ask if I wanted my french toast dusted with cinnamon (which of course I would) though not many staff on as it's 10:30 on a Thursday, 2 visible staff I can see to 7 customers which is a fair ratio) delightful smell - a concoction of savoury complimented by sweet notes. The music seems to be covers and remixes of Popular songs - things you know but in a different way, which is the general vibe I get from this little restaur-af. Sweet and savoury options, all at fair prices - nothing 10 or above (unless added on to your meal) french toast cinnamon dusted with bacon and maple syrup - I am a big fan of french toast, or as we call it in my native tongue 'eggy bread', so I feel I will judge this against the best eggiest of bread I have consumed in this life. Gone for a regular Vanilla latte (best way to judge as it takes into account syrup management without detaching too much from the coffee itself, allowing you to still get most notes without the flavour being overpowered) - waiting a fair little while for my drink but ah well, believe they have online orders as well as the table of 6 and the table of 2 and a half (small child). But my goodness would I like some coffee - the table of 2 and a half (that I let be seated before me though I entered first) has received their mains yet I am still waiting for coffee. 30 minutes and I have no food or coffee, I'm hoping the coffee is at least nice - and that I've not been forgotten about (though this does usually happen). The two ladies are about to pay and I still have no drink (I thought I was about to receive one but the table of 6 that I ordered before has received theirs now) As they ladies leave I finally received my drink and food - and if I'm honest they were both worth the wait. I started with a succulent sip of my vanilla latte, lips greeted with a robust blend of flavours, woodny, nutty - some elements of honey complimented by the vanilla, but not overpowering. Very solid coffee - and the cup even has an ergonomic grip! What a touch! Though I will say the milk much like the staff has been slightly over-worked, and more to the consistency of a machiatto, yet the joke is on them as I rather enjoy a slightly dry latte. The main event though, my goodness. To say it is not the best eggiest of bread I have tried would be a disservice to the works, for it was quite simply the fluffiest and lightest - yet still packed a punch of flavour. French toast is something you just cannot go wrong with; savoury, sweet - or if you're like me and can't decide - then both! I believe the wait was just over 30 minutes but I would honestly wait double that time for this meal, though I will say it would have appreciated both delicacies to my stomach sooner than they were. I would rate the works an honest 4.7 working men out of 5 working men. The only real areas I would recommend improvement on would just be adding one more member of staff - however I do truly understand that the 2 members of staff were working hard and were constantly busy, it would have just been the cherry on top of this entire works if I had managed to get my order in a slightly snappier manner. Never the less, a very enjoyable breakfast. Perhaps maybe my patience itself is a fault??

Yet to find a dessert shop that is as good as The Works. I have tried my fair share of dessert places and not once have i enjoyed the desserts. I would 100% recommend The Works. The staff is warm and welcoming and the atmosphere is cozy too

Just to clarify some of the other reviews, this is not the ice cream/waffle shop. This "The Works" is the discount book shop. This is a great shop for when you are looking for a birthday or Christmas gift. It has some great book's and book box set's. They also stock small toys, game's and thing's to make and do. The prices are very agreeable as well, and won't break the bank. At Christmas time they usually have a stocking filler section, goes down well with my boy All in all an excellent shop and friendly staff.
