My provenance with Independent Age or Royal United Kingdom Beneficiary Association as it is Registered and originally founded [IA] is that I worked for 16 years as a Volunteer Visitor. I supported many elderly over the years helping them in many ways. Including reminding them they ALL received money for free heating in the winter and there was never a need to be cold. Pre the Russian invasion I received 200 & it heated my barn from November until February, 50 a month for 4 months. I am now 80 and receive 1000, which is many months of FREE heating. I obviously pay my benefit into to my account with my energy provider and am in credit and never turn my heating off.. Yesterday I was with a group of my age, we were all CELEBRATING having our heating paid for the winter. I came home and opened mail from IA in which a Helpline Advisor named as Liam Bowery immorally claimed elderly were sitting in a freezing flat and spending their State Pension on energy And asking me to send money!! NO mention of the 1000 or at least 900 that all pensioners receive and asking me to donate. IA must not lie by putting out totally false claims. Heating a flat with 1000 or 900 will last far longer than in my barn and nobody lives on just a State Pension as all sorts of other benefits kick in. When I worked for IA the staff at HQ and I would have ensured the elderly were using their 220-300 and getting all their benefits. NOT asking other 80 year olds to subside them! The Chief Executives Stuart Rogers and Julia Neuberger along with the Trustees should be held to account as it is asking for money on false pretences. IA should be CELEBRATING the cash for Free Heating and reminding the elderly as I did for 16 years. I have phoned to speak to Liam Bowery who signed the letter and the Chief Executives as this is misleading the public and must stop; but of course, they can not be put through! Neither was my call returned. SHAME on you Independent Age after such an amazing history since 1846.
