After years of sending off Loakes to be resoled by Timpsons for 120 I thought I would give a local cobbler a try. I was impressed with how cheap it was (around 30). But they absolutely ruined the shoe - despite them being Goodyear welted they stitched into the main sole through to the inner sole. This was not only uncomfortable but it meant that even the slightest bit of surface water would soak through to the leather (caused permanent damage - the shoe was also covered with flecks of glue which further damaged the leather). I have not given them 1 star as they did then offer to resole the shoes again to see if it would resolve the problem (it didnt). Took them to Mr Snobs in Banstead - they were more expensive (50) but they also replaced in sole, repaired shoe lining and used quality JR soles. He also advised me on some products to restore the leather staining and attempt to shine them.
