The site is large with flat pitches, all have water and elec hook up. But theres no dividing hedges, so no privacy.
The hardstandings are actually ash with a fine covering of gravel, which eventually gets moved about and the ash ends up inside your awning or caravan/motorhome.
When they cut the grass they dont pick up the cuttings. So if you step on the grass, the cuttings end up with the ash inside your awning or caravan/motorhome.
If you want to stay on a building site, fine. Otherwise go elsewhere. The view is a mixture of metal storage containers, vehicles, farm machinery, stacks of Thermalite blocks, bricks, paving slabs, plastic pipe, oil drums, old wooden pallets, building equipment, sand, gravel and rubble.
The shower block is a shower room. Its very nice, but, with one shower, one toilet and one wash hand basin. The hot water on the basin is hardly more than a drip. Apparently, the site is licensed for 7 caravans/motorhomes and 10 tents for ONE SHOWER and ONE TOILET?
The toilet seat doesnt fit, it wobbles about. Theres no toilet roll holder, so the loo rolls sit on top of the cistern, which is continually wet with condensation so the loo rolls are wet too.
There is a pot washing room, which we did use. But, personally Id rather have a washing machine and drier. Beware if you are washing dishes and someone uses the chemical disposal point; your water will run cold until they are finished.
The owners are a couple of storytellers. First you will be told that the Wi-Fi is hardwired to each pitch (eh?). Then they will say that the heating in the shower room comes on for 2 hours, morning and evening every day. Rubbish! I showered at least 45 times on this site and the heating was never on, even when it snowed!! I did complain and was told that Tony would sort it, he didnt. And they say that theres a pumping station under the shower block, sorry room, which is capable of sending text messages, amazing.
There is no designated dog walk, despite what it says on their site. You will be directed out of the site onto the main road of the village and told to follow the public footpaths.
The first time I spoke to Tony he told me that I came from the rough end of town twice. Then he insulted me about the time I had spent living in France. Then he became an expert in war games, telling me that as we were surrounded by Airfields, if Putin decided to invade (???) we wouldnt stand a chance. I had planned to avoided him after that, but I didnt have to; he ignored me completely. He could pass within 2 feet of me and just stare at the ground. Absolutely no hosting skills whatsoever.
Theres a five bar gate across the entrance which is closed whenever the Grandchildren are on site, which seemed to be pretty often. You can open the gate if you happen to be a 17 stone rugby player. If, like me, you are an 8 stone woman, you wont be able to budge it without pulling a muscle which I did. Its total overkill for a 2 and 4 year old, especially considering theres a pedestrian gate feet away with a simple gate latch.
If you do manage to get through the gate, more often than not, your access will be blocked by a tradesmans vehicle. The owners were renovating some outbuildings into holiday cottages, and this seems to be the priority for the owners. They dont seem bothered about anyone on the campsite, or the mess they have to stay in.
No one came to offer help when our awning collapsed under the weight of snow, or when high winds almost ripped it off altogether. They didnt even notice.
As a CL site they are not permitted to have anyone stay for more than 14 days. Nonetheless, they were very happy to take our cash for 9 weeks, until someone complained that we'd been there so long. We were given 2 days notice to leave.
