Ascetically a quintessential tea rooms offering a good range of teas, coffees, cakes and light meals. However, I felt very much let down by the poor customer service. On arrival, there was no acknowledgement or greeting so sat down at our chosen table. After 10 mins, still no approach by staff. We then helped ourselves to a menu from the counter. After a further 5/10 mins still no approach, so now on the point of wanting to leave. At this point while trying to attract attention it was clear that the waitress serving had not once since our arrival even looked or approached any tables in the area we were sitting. Eventually she approached our table to take our order with no apology for the lengthy delay. Her reception whilst not rude, was not the friendliest and somewhat distant. When asked what cakes were available, as the display was not labelled, her knowledge was very poor, apparently her sister deals with that - surely this is a basic knowledge requirement for front of house staff! So sorry, whilst the cake was very good, we will not be returning to this cafe for a good while.
