My Father was Vicar of St Michael's in the mid 1970s. We lived in the Old Vicarage to begin with (I learned to ride a bicycle indoors as the Old Vicarage was so big) - I remember my Dad spending a whole day mowing the vast lawns. After a year or so the New Vicarage was built on the enormous front lawn of the Old Vicarage and we moved into it. The Old Vicarage was sold to the Barnes family who became our friends. My Mother is still in touch with Julia Barnes. The Woodlands Estate was built before we moved to East Ardsley - the new housing development was constructed in the grounds of the Old Vicarage. Half of the Old Vicarage was demolished (even so it's still a big house) and the old boating lake, tennis courts and orchards were built on to become the Woodlands Estate. Loved that house even though it was reputed to be haunted by the ghost of the previous Vicar.
