Describes itself as a "restaurant" but I've been to better transport cafes on a motorway. Food choice was very poor. The menu is unclear and lacking any character - e.g. a choice of jacket potato with beans; chicken curry; sausage and mash; sausage roll; soup; bean chili - basically anything they can microwave and slop on a plate quickly - you're better off bringing your own picnic. The "restaurant" lacks any ambiance - most tables are covered with used crockery, dirty, mess on the floor - who wants to sit next to a table piled high with everyone else's used plates because no-one is coming to clear them away? They were also running out of cutlery, so I had to eat my "restaurant" meal with a stainless steel knife but a plastic fork. What normal restaurant would ever think that was acceptable? Seriously, bring your own food, save a fortune, have a better experience.

Great location and ok food but I'm confused by the hot drinks pricing. Americano is 3.15 but flat white is 3.00. when I asked why I was told "it was because the flat white has hot milk in it". So it seems the more ingredients/labour your drink has the cheaper it is!

10 for 2 burnt sausages and burnt wedges. Technically, it was supposed to be sausages and chips only. But they ran out of chips (go figure). So it was replaced by burnt wedges from another dish with some gravy and peas. It took 20mins to get few coffee, extremely incompetent staff. None of the food options had any seasoning. They always serve Mulled wine, but this year there was none. Ruined the whole Wakehurst experience. We visit Wakehurst every year, and this year is the first time the quality of food, service and the whole atmosphere was disgusting in the restaurant. It's like the kitchen staff have no clue how to cook basic food. Just appalling.

Best to bring your own coffee and snack to Wakehurst! For the second visit in a month we regretted not bringing our own food as the choice was non existent at both cafes. Ok if you want baked potato and beans or a slice of cake. Scones etc could surely be kept in a freezer if you are worried about food wastage. Very poor.
