Thank you for a great day climbing Lingmell and Scafell Pike! Appreciated the route flexibility on the day to avoid wet feet and make the most of the weather! If you're looking for a knowledgeable guide to the fells, would recommend! Thanks again!

I was looking for a guide with experience of walking with young children (5, 7 and 13), found a Mountain Journeys blog specifically about this subject and decided to get in touch. Mark was brilliant in terms of suggesting routes that would engage the children and also give us the flexibility to walk more or less depending on how they were feeling. The evening before our planned walk, the weather took a turn for the worse and Mark proactively called me to recommend a change to the route. We met at Wrynose Pass the next morning with a plan to scramble straight up Pike O'Blisco so the kids would focus on having fun on the rocks rather than the rain, wind and low visibility. It worked and they all arrived at the top in high spirits and keen to do more! Descending to Red Tarn we then took a direct route up Cold Pike which gave them further enjoyable experience of rough terrain, remoteness and solitude. On the way back down, the cloud cleared enough for us to snatch some brief views of the valley but we'd had such a good time already, this was just a bonus. In total we walked for 5 hours and there was no moaning at all from the children. Mark kept them engaged by talking about the rocks and plants we saw, discussing the route and answering all of their questions. As a first mountain experience for the youngest two, I couldn't have asked for more. They are hooked and eager to reach their next summit. I will certainly contact Mark next time we are in the Lakes and highly recommend him.

We went Gorge Scrambling with Mark who had a great way of guiding us through the gorge - it was fun, action packed and we got a lot of space to go through at our own pace. Thoroughly enjoyed! !

If you want to learn map reading and navigation skills, I highly recommend Mark at Mountain Journeys. Two full days, including pacing, map orientation, taking a bearing using a compass, and fully understanding a map and the details within it to identify where you are. Key skills if you're an avid hiker.
