I have used this cafe on a couple of occasions and on both occasions have really enjoyed the food. I visited both time during the rhododendron season and was able to see the gardens at their colourful best. Despite being a little slow in serving people. A queueing system operates and I suppose the sheer weight of numbers makes patience necessary. There is no booking for the cafe, simply turn up, order and get your food or get a table and join the order queue. Having said all this the food and coffee are well worth the wait with "doorstep" sandwiches packed with filling. Proper sandwiches indeed.

It's like a maze of every colour you can think of. We went in May and it was spectacular. Very busy but because the paths wind through the garden it felt at times like we were the only ones there. We nearly missed the children's castle and the pond with newts, waterboatman and mayfly larvae we were just as excited as the children. We were charged 6 entrance each and well worth it. Tea and coffee was good and reasonably priced, the seating area was very busy but we soon found a table for three near a lovely couple from Chesterfield.
