They have good selection of bread and bakery products. Also potatoes and some other fruit and vegetables. Freezers do have some frozen food. You can usually find some reduced price items near the counter. If you go in late afternoon, you may well find that they have reduced price items in the refrigerated section. You can pay by debit or credit card, and they will take payment by cash. Be aware that the Post Office counter (that was at the rear of the shop) is no longer open. They have got part of the counter at the front set aside as a Post Office. But, if the shop assistants are busy, you could have to wait for a while. If you need cashback, I suggest you check with the manager or assistants, as I am not sure if they will do that now. Also, the cash machine outside is not provided by McColl's. It is run by The Bank of Ireland (as far as I know). So if you have problems with the cash machine, the staff in McColl's will not be able to help you. September 2021 The cash machine outside is now a CashZone ATM. Still not operated by McColl's. So if you have any problems, you will need to contact the bank that provides the cash machine. Face coverings still need to be worn inside the shop, but there is not a limit of 3 people at anytime inside the shop. They have moved most of the barriers they placed around the shop, so it is easier to walk around now. May 2021 Because of McColls having financial difficulties, (at least for the moment), you can no longer pay bills using Paypoint. I think you may be able to pay Council Tax bills there, it may be a good idea to check on this service being available. Not sure if you can use (Payzone?) to top up Electricity Keys (for prepayment meters), but you may be able to top up your Gas Card (as it uses the Post Office service). Again, it is probably a good idea to check this out. If not available, Cheers convenience store on the High Street may be able to help. November 2022. I am not sure if everyone who uses this shop is aware that the shop will close early next year. It may be reopened as a Morrison's Extra shop, but it will no longer be run as a McColl's shop. As it does not make a profit. So the post office services and the other services such as Payzone will close. Probably as a consequence of the shop closing, they have lost their license to sell alcohol. So you cannot buy any alcohol from this shop anymore. I will be sorry to see this shop close, as I use Payzone. I would probably have to use a bus to travel to a shop that provides Payzone services in the new year when they close. December 2022 In case anyone has not heard, this shop is closing on Sunday 22 January 2023. The Post Office part is closing on Sunday 15 January 2023 at 5.30pm. This means anyone who has the Energy rebate vouchers from their supplier for standard Prepayment meters will not be able to redeem them at McColls. As you need to use the Post Office services to sort it out. Everyone who does need to do it will have to travel outside Walsall Wood to another Post Office. The nearest Post Offices are in Brownhills and Aldridge. I hope all the hard-working staff at this shop are able to get other jobs quickly. Thank you for your valuable services especially during the pandemic. January 14 2023 I just went into McColls. Although the Post Office services were not supposed to close until tomorrow afternoon, they have closed now. This means no one can post letters or parcels inside the shop. Buy postage stamps, or pay bills using Payzone services. You cannot redeem energy vouchers for Prepayment Meters from your Energy Supplier either. It also means that no one can buy lottery tickets here. You may no longer be able to top up a Gas Card for a Prepayment Meter either. I would ask the assistants in the shop about this.
