A disappointing visit. I didn't know the area and so was influenced by online reviews. At first view it looked great with it's low beams and olde worldy feel. At the bar there were no labels on the hand pumps and so I asked the barman what bitters they had. This seemed to baffle him so I asked again - then someone from the back of the service area said they had none. Not knowing any other places to go I had to settle for lager, not great in the prevailing cold weather and bland in taste. To be fair though, the pub was popular and filled up while I was having my drink. I guess real ale isn't a popular thing locally.
