I have been exploring local churches and I heard this one has some spooky stories and it's near me. It's in a Beautiful countryside but seems like the beauty is ruining day by day because of people dumping their domestic waste around the place. Hopefully something will be done by the authorities.

It's a lovely old church, eerily silent on it's hill, miles from anywhere... But the insanely busy A14 is only a mile or so to the west, and Ipswich starts a few miles south. It's an oasis of calm, with more than a few odd tales connected to it - but then I know of very few ancient churches (and St Mary's is ancient, going back to Mediaeval times) that don't. The interior is plain, but beautiful, with a delightful font, and some fascinating old tombstones in the floor. The place exudes calm, and last year, after changing my job, after a very long time, I felt a bit lost - hard to explain, but I did. A visit to the church, which was open - and here, I must explain that I'm a life long atheist - I love churches, but not so much what goes on in them; I looked round the building, made me think of all the people who have walked in and out of it; the joy of Christenings and Weddings; the sorrow of Funerals, the sermons of various incumbents - the sheer history of the place - it calmed me down, just thinking that it was here before I was born, and hopefully it'll be here a long time after I'm dead. Whatever petty problems I had, St Mary's has seen them all. I sat in the porch, watching a rainstorm, and felt better. It's a hidden gem, and worth going for a walk or cycle ride to see - the views on the way up are great, too, especially on a nice day, where you get a sense of the huge skies Suffolk is famed for.
