Great spot for walking and cycling straight out of the door. Old Smithy was cosy and kitchen well equipped. No WiFi a bonus. The only sound at night through the open window was Akeld burn running down into the River Glen. (You can tell this was once part of Scotland). Close to the site of The Battle of Holmedon Hill. Lots of historic castles and beaches not far away too.

My family stayed in Catkin Cottage and we loved it. The accommodations were very nice. It was a two bedroom cottage with kitchen, washer and dryer. There was a game room and pool on the property also. We drove to Wooler to get groceries. The staff was fantastic. Our international flight was delayed, and it was late by the time we arrived. We called and the lady at the front desk was so nice. She left our door unlocked and key on table. We checked in the next morning for our week long stay. The whole area looked so pretty, like right out of a travel brochure. We drove to Edinburgh on more than one day, and the whole area is absolutely beautiful, everyone we met was so friendly, and we definitely would like to come back and stay at Akeld Manor again.
